Student life satisfaction plays a key role inacademic achievement; however, the exploration on thepredictors of life satisfaction in secondary school studentsis insufficient. This study explored how indigenous per-sonality traits and parenting style predicted students’ lifesatisfaction. The participants were 718 junior secondarystudents in China with a mean age of 13.39 years. Per-sonality, parental style, and life satisfaction were assessedthrough inventories which were statistically supported inthe literature. The results showed that personality, parent-ing style, and life satisfaction were interrelated. Personalityand parenting style altogether accounted for around 31 %variance in student global life satisfaction. Specifically,global life satisfaction could be predicted by the person-ality factors of emotional stability, dependability, andindigenous interpersonal relatedness as well as authorita-tive and permissive parenting styles. Different domains oflife satisfaction were predicted by personality factors andparenting styles to different extents. Implications for cross-cultural theorizing and positive education are discussed.
