Does Touch-based Interaction in Learning with InteractiveImages Improve Students’ Learning?

This study aims to examine the effects of atouchscreen device (iPad in this study) on students’learning compared to a desktop PC in terms of tactilevision. The participants were 56 undergraduate students: 24studied using a desktop PC (mouse-based interaction) andthe others studied using a touchscreen device (touch-basedinteraction) about the human heart through interactiveimages. MANOVA results revealed a significant maineffect for the device type. Three follow-up ANOVAsrevealed that the students in the touch-based interactioncondition significantly outperformed those in the mouse-based condition in terms of the identification test, but therewere no statistical differences in terms of factual andconceptual knowledge acquisition. This study reveals thatthe touchscreen users engage with the screen, whichimproves their understanding of the objects
