The characters in the article are translators and interpreters who are lately, thanks to the globalisation, favourite literary characters. The discussion and research purposes were to find stereotypes in the contemporary literature which are connected to these characters (‘interspace’ nomad lost nperson without roots, language pilgrim, foreigner in the foreign, alienated, uprooted, transient), as well as topics which are connected to certain clichés and expectations, which are usually found in this kind of fiction (suffering because of and through language, loss of the identity, isolation, language stranding, alienation, loss of the mother tongue, homelessness). The aim of the article is to research position and development of the female literary character based on the concrete example of Olga Grjasnowa’s literary debut All Russians Love Birch Trees (2012), where the profession of an interpreter is the logical consequence of her multilingualism At the same time the purpose of the article is to deal with the development of the literary character determined by loneliness and solitude in this literary text.
