What are the important attributes of goodmathematics teaching? The answer depends on whom youare asking. Teachers, researchers, policymakers, adminis-trators, and parents usually provide their own view on whatthey consider the important attributes of good mathematicsteaching. The purpose of this study was to determine whatbeginning teachers report as being the most importantattributes at the secondary level. This research exploredwhether there was a relationship between the demographicsof the participants and the attributes of good teaching. Aquantitative analysis was used to gather information fromthe research participants regarding their beliefs and class-room practices of good mathematics teaching. The threemost important attributes in good teaching were classroommanagement, motivation, and strong in content knowledge.One interesting finding was the discovery of four groups ofbeginning teachers, and how they were associated withspecific attributes of good mathematics teaching accordingto their demographics
