Apparent bullying and victimization rates vary, depending on how these rates are measured. This studyused Olweus-type global items and a short version of theSchool Bullying Scales to investigate the prevalence rateand behavioral ranking of bullying and victimizationamong secondary students in Hong Kong, Taiwan, andMacao. We used the response categories and cut-off pointfrom the World Health Organization Health Behaviour inSchool-aged Children study. A total of 11,876 secondarystudents (grades 7–12) participated in this study. Resultsrevealed that the rates of self-reported bullying, victim-ization, and combined bullying/victimization were 5.1, 9.3,and 1.8 %, respectively. The prevalence rates of bullyingand victimization in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao werequite similar. More male students were involved in bully-ing and victimization than female students. Prevalencerates of bullying and victimization decreased as grade levelincreased. Verbal bullying and victimization were the mostcommon categories of school bullying. Implications of theresults for bullying research are discussed
