Ausnahme Pop. Über die Unwahrscheinlichkeit einer besonderen ästhetischen Erfahrung

No image available for this title
Pop‹ is an abbreviation of the term ›popular‹. Nevertheless the notion
of pop cannot be reduced to the meaning of the word popular. Since the pop art
movement has entered the public scene there is an inherent aspect of reflexivity in
the meaning of the word ›pop‹, that is not present in the term ›popular‹. In this
reflexive sense ›pop‹ can stand for a particular aesthetic experience, how it is, to
participate in a consumerist and mass culture society. In virtue of this experience a
person is able to establish a personal stance to mass culture between devotion and
defence, instead of being just a victim of marketing strategies. Aesthetic Objects,
that stimulate this particular experience, are constituted by forms of spectacular selfreference
and response dependent practices. Pop’s aesthetics of exaggeration is thus
a medium of self-contained subjectivity in the media age.
