Kinematic asymmetries in extragalactic radio sources—environmental effects III

No image available for this title
We examined the influence of environmental/
intrinsic factors on the apparent asymmetries observed in
the arm-lengths and luminosities of the lobes of double ex-
tragalactic radio sources. We showed that the observed arm-
length ratio (Q ) is modified by environmental/intrinsic fac-
tors, which increases with increasing anisotropy in the en-
vironment. Also the modification seems higher for quasars
than for FR-II radio galaxies. Using the power-law model
of flux evolution in extragalactic radio sources, our analysis
showed similar trend in the modification of observed lobe
luminosity ratio by environmental/intrinsic factors. Our re-
sult also showed that the environmental influence on the
observed asymmetries increases as radio source linear size
decreases and seems higher for radio sources with observed
lobe luminosity ratio (R < 1) than for radio sources with
R ≥ 1.
