Over the past few decades, Korea has madegreat accomplishments in the quality of its education aswell as the quantitative expansion of education in spite ofmany obstacles. Facing the new challenges of globalizationand social polarization, Korea has prepared to make a roadto the second leap toward “world class” education. How-ever, Korea faces tough challenges on the road to the worldclass education. The driving forces for rapid developmentbrought about a lot of shadow. This article reviews thehistorical development of Korean education, examines theoutcomes of Korean education, and finally proposes severaltasks for performing the world class education
