Teachers’ Priorities for Change in Australian Schools to Support Staff Well-Being

No image available for this title
This study explored Australian school teachers’priorities for change within schools in order to support staffpsychological well-being. We began by holding a focusgroup and, in corroborating with the existing literature onstressors reported by school teachers, identified seven keyareas for change in schools that teachers thought wouldmost support their well-being at work. An online surveywas then conducted with teachers from across Australia(N=960), who ranked each of these suggestions in orderof importance. Results found that the most important needsfor change according to teachers were smaller class sizesand improved measures for student behaviour manage-ment. These results offer insight into areas for organisa-tional change that teachers think are most important fortheir own well-being. We discuss the findings in relation topsychological research as well as current issues within theAustralian education sector.
