A Mixed Methods Evaluation of College English Writing: A CaseStudy in China

China’s recent curriculum reform of English as aforeign language programs has shifted toward an integra-tion of language abilities and transferable skills such asintercultural skills. This study is part of an internal evalu-ation project that examines the implementation and impactof a newly reformed writing course at one of China’s topforeign studies universities. The study explores students’acceptance and learning experiences of the course withspecific focus on reform features. Applying a mixedmethods approach, the study drew quantitative data fromthe student survey and test scores, and qualitative data frominterviews and reflexive journals. Mixed analyses con-firmed the design and suitability of the course. Findingsindicated high appreciation of the course, statistically sig-nificant increase in test scores, and moderate improvementon intercultural skills
