Uuaregat selfiu uuaregot – A Personal Note on Anglo-German Philological Relations Past and Present

No image available for this title
This essay explores the relation between the studies of early English and early German during the past two centuries It outlines the gradual segregation between the modern philologies within the context of nineteenth-century nationalism and studies the cultural roots for prevailing prejudices on either side Outlining common areas of research and integrative curricula it attempts to argue for a new perspective on Early Germanic Studies, one that overcomes the artificial boundaries between disciplines in order to save the subject and its sub-disciplines from academic and political misappropriations.
