This paper reports on the ways in which aselected group of parents in Vietnam decided which uni-versity one of their children should attend. Drawing uponnarrative accounts provided by 16 parents of recent grad-uates from three universities in Hanoi, the paper seeks toelucidate the kinds of considerations taken into account byparents in their decision-making and the nature of theparent–child relationships that were evident in the process.The paper presents a classification of parent–child rela-tionships concerning the matter of university choice in Vietnam
